Bio
Anastasia DesRoches offers a sampling of original tunes from Acadian fiddle players of Prince Edward Island mixed in with some traditional tunes, old favorites and personal compositions. She has recently finished collecting almost 300 new Acadian fiddle tunes from her contemporaries. She is often accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Brent Chaisson on guitar and dancer/piano player, Mylène Ouellette.
Anastasia DesRoches présente un mélange de pièces originales écrites par des violoneux acadiens de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard et de morceaux plus connus du répertoire traditionnel. Elle a récemment complété l’élaboration d’une collection d’environ 300 nouvelles pièces acadiennes écrites par ses pairs. C’est avec plaisir qu’elle partage cette musique ainsi que quelques-unes de ses propres compositions. Elle est souvent accompagnée à la guitare par Brent Chaisson, multi-instrumentiste, et de la pianiste/danseuse Mylène Ouellette.
Workshops
Anastasia DesRoches enjoys teaching workshops in various different settings and can meet the needs of many different types of workshops.
Fiddle Workshop
Anastasia can teach workshops for all levels of players from beginner to advanced. She teaches by ear and from sheet music. She provides sheet music for all the tunes taught and participants may record parts of the workshop as well. These workshops focus mainly on Acadian music from Prince Edward Island and include Anastasia's own tunes and those of her peers.
Acadian Music General Workshop
This type of workshop works great for complete beginners and non-players. Anastasia, with the help of another musician, gives an insight into Acadian song, instrumental music and dance. Participants will learn the basics of each and have the opportunity to try all of these and ask questions. This workshop can be tailored to children, adults or a combination of both.
